Church Pew Upholstery & New Pew Cushions in Canada

Flattened, hard or torn pew cushions make a beautiful sanctuary uncomfortable — and bare wooden pews can be hard to sit through a long service. Atlas Upholstering rebuilds and makes new church pew cushions in our fully equipped Montréal workshop: new high-density foam, new seat and back cushions made to measure, kneeler pads recovered, all in durable, easy-to-clean fabric. We collect your pews or work from templates, build the cushions at the shop, and deliver them back, with nationwide pickup and delivery. Pew upholstery is one part of our full church pew restoration service — honest assessment, free written estimates, English or French.

Comfortable, durable seating for heavy congregational use

Upholstery is the padded, comfort half of pew restoration. Where seat and back cushions have gone flat, hard, lumpy or torn — or where wooden pews have no padding at all — we rebuild or make new cushions to measure. We re-core with new high-density foam that keeps its shape under constant use, and recover in a durable, easy-to-clean fabric chosen to suit your sanctuary and survive years of services, weddings and funerals.

Atlas has been an upholstery workshop on Boulevard Cavendish in Montréal since 1967 — cushions and seating are the core of what we do. What sets our model apart is where the work happens: all cushion work is done at our workshop, never on-site, because cutting foam accurately, sewing covers and templating each pew need a clean cutting table and industrial machines. We measure or collect your pews, build the cushions, and deliver them back — and if the frames also need repair or the wood needs refinishing, we handle those in the same visit.

What pew upholstery covers

New seat cushions

The most requested pew work: new seat cushions made to measure for each pew run, so the whole set is comfortable and consistent. We template every pew rather than guessing, so cushions fit the length and curve of the seat.

Back cushions & padding

Padded back cushions add comfort to long services and soften hard wooden backs. We match the seat cushions in fabric and finish so the pew reads as one piece.

New high-density foam

Flat, hard cushions are usually collapsed foam. We re-core with new high-density foam that holds its shape and comfort under the constant use a church puts on its seating — not the soft foam that flattens within a year.

Durable, cleanable covers

We recover in commercial-grade upholstery fabrics and vinyls that resist wear and clean up easily. We help you choose a colour and material that suit your sanctuary, confirmed with samples before we build.

Kneeler pads

Kneeler pads take constant use and are among the most common church items we recover. We rebuild the padding and recover them to match the pews.

Combined with repair & refinishing

Reupholstery is often done alongside structural repair and refinishing. One pickup, one delivery — and we tell you honestly which work your pews actually need.

Measure, build, deliver — the Atlas process

1. Free assessment & written estimate

Send photos of your pews and cushions and your location for a fast first read. We recommend foam and fabric, confirm whether cushions can be templated or the pews need to travel, and put a written estimate in your hands — transport included, no obligation.

2. Templating or pickup

For cushions alone we can often template each pew so only the cushions travel. For full reupholstery we collect your pews from anywhere in Canada. Larger sanctuaries are scheduled in batches so your congregation is never left without seating.

3. Built in the workshop

Foam is cut accurately, covers are sewn on industrial machines, and each cushion is built to fit its pew. Our clean cutting tables and machines are what make cushions that fit correctly and last, not sag or slip.

4. Delivery back to your sanctuary

Finished cushions and pews are delivered back and fitted to your schedule. You get a realistic timeline with the estimate — not after — and honest advice at every step.

Why we build pew cushions in the workshop, never on-site

Foam is cut accurately on a clean table

Cushions that fit and last start with foam cut precisely to a template. That needs a clean cutting table and the right tools — which is why on-site cushion work so often ends up ill-fitting and lumpy.

Covers are sewn on industrial machines

Durable pew covers are sewn on industrial machines with proper seams and fixings. Our shop is set up to build covers that survive heavy use rather than fail at the seams within months.

No mess in your sanctuary

Because foam offcuts, thread and fitting stay at our shop, your sanctuary stays clean and usable. We work in batches and around your calendar, so services continue while your cushions are being made.

Pew cushions for congregations across Canada

Our workshop is at 2535 Boul. Cavendish in Montréal, Québec, open Monday to Saturday from 9am to 6pm. Because cushions are built at the shop and returned to you — and often templated so only the cushions travel — our reach is not limited to one city. We arrange pickup and delivery for churches across Canada. Congregations in the Greater Montréal area can see our local church pew work below, and churches anywhere in the country can start with photos and a free written estimate that includes transport.

FAQ

  • Pew upholstery covers the padded parts of your pews: seat cushions, back cushions and kneeler pads. In the workshop we re-core flattened or hard cushions with new high-density foam, make new cushions to measure where there are none or the old ones are beyond saving, and recover everything in a durable, easy-to-clean fabric chosen for heavy congregational use. The result is comfortable, consistent seating that holds up for years rather than compressing again in a season.

  • Yes. We fabricate new pew seat and back cushions to measure, whether you are replacing worn-out cushions or adding padding to bare wooden pews for the first time. We template each pew so the cushions fit the run correctly, and we can add non-slip backing and ties or hook-and-loop fixings so cushions stay in place during services.
