How Much Does Church Pew Restoration Cost?
It is the first question every church asks, and the honest answer is: it depends — on real, knowable factors. Rather than publish a price that would mislead you, here is exactly what moves the number, so your committee can budget sensibly and read any quote you receive.
Why there is no single price
Church pew restoration is not one job — it is up to three (structural repair, refinishing and reupholstery) done across anywhere from a handful of pews to a whole sanctuary. A church needing new seat cushions on twenty pews and a church rebuilding cracked ends and refinishing forty are completely different projects. That is why Atlas quotes every project individually and does not publish fixed prices: a number that ignored your pews’ actual condition and count would be worse than no number at all. What we can do is show you the factors that decide it.
The factors that decide the cost
Number of pews. The single biggest driver. Cost scales with how many pews and how many linear feet of seating you have, though a full set often earns better per-pew value than a one-off.
Condition and scope. Which of the three trades your pews need. Reupholstery of cushions alone is the lightest scope; stripping and refinishing the wood is more labour-intensive; structural repair of joints and ends varies most, because it depends on what is actually broken.
Materials. Foam density and, above all, upholstery fabric. Hard-wearing, cleanable church-grade fabrics range widely in price, and the choice is yours to make against your budget.
Finish work. Colour-matching across a set, or taking a whole sanctuary to one consistent tone, adds care and time versus a straightforward re-seal.
Transport. For churches beyond Greater Montréal, pickup & delivery is a real line item that depends on distance and on whether we move whole pews or just removable cushions and kneelers.
